Forest Beach is known as Hilton Head Island’s “Ocean Community”. It is located along the beach between Sea Pines and Shipyard Plantation.
This community reflexes a casual, laidback atmosphere with the Atlantic Ocean being on 600 yards away. It is divided into North and South Forest Beach by the Coligny Traffic Circle and the Coligny Beach Park, one of the many public beach parks on the island.
North Forest Beach begins at Coligny Plaza the island’s oldest shopping center that encompasses a duck pond and offers over 60 boutiques, restaurants, entertainment and even the Island’s first theater. It is now named the Coligny Theater “art house” which as mostly shows films by independent producers, targeting an upscale adult audience. Ralph Sutton a local artist displays his art work both inside and outside the theater. Hilton Head’s history shows Admiral Gaspar de Coligny, a French admiral led two excursions to our shores in the late 1500’s, thus where Coligny Plaza and Traffic Circle are named.
North Forest Beach extends down to the backside of Shipyard Plantation and the Sonesta Resort and Spa. A majority of the homes were built in the 1950’s but have been extensively renovated, additions added, or demolished. The price range can be anywhere from $500,000 for an older home or home site up to $7,000,000 for a new 8 bedroom oceanfront home.
South Forest Beach begins to the right of the Coligny Traffic Circle and continues down to the Ocean Gate of Sea Pines Resort. It consists of a hotel, timeshares, condominiums and single family homes. The price point also varies with the condition of the home and location of the home. Serving up beverages and tennis in the Forest Beach Ocean Community is the “Tiki Hut” oceanfront bar and the best beach volleyball on the island. Plus the Van De Meer Tennis Facility offers tennis for everyone from the beginner to the professional with daily private instruction, camps, and a tennis academy.
